History


1882 formation in Nürtingen in the south of Germany
1892-1935 Wilhelm Rieger builds the first primitive greenhouses
1935 Otto Rieger takes over the establishment from his father
about 1960 with his new variety, Riegers Schwabenland’ Otto Rieger popularises the begonia elatior
1967-1995 Margarete Rohde-Rieger, the eldest daughter of Otto Rieger, and her husband Hans-Joachim Rohde are managing the establishment and expanding the breeding with, about 4000 sqm greenhouse in Nürtingen
1977 / 1982 construction of 6500 sqm of greenhouse in 2 sections in Altdorf
1995 expansion of 3500 sqm to complete relocation to Altdorf
since 1995 a true family business, now in its 5th generation and managed by Matthias Rohde

Heating


  • Burning wooden pellets (500 KW, year of construction 2003, 2 buffer storages with 30 and 70 cbm)
  • Block heating station
  • Oil-fired heating for extreme cases
  • Block heating station using alternative fuel controlled by the company Green City, each station produces 265 KW electrical power and 220 KW thermal power. The grid is supplied with the surplus generated power. Our nursery uses 100% of the generated thermal.
